I have always loved how hearing an old song has the power to sling-shot me back to that original moment in time of influence in my life.
Could be a secular song that never got old (“Build Me Up Buttercup” comes to mind) wrapped up in memories so vivid, I can even remember what I was wearing, where I was going and who with!
Worship songs open me up to so many treasures too. The piercing truth hearing a song for the first time and then being part of singing that song as a collective offering to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Same for reading for the first time or re-reading favorite writings bring treasures to me and leave a marker along my journey.
All those memories have built an altar of remembrance within me and like most God honoring altars, serve a humble and grace-filled purpose of reflection and remembrance, gratitude and thankfulness.
After a time at my personal altar of remembrance, I always come away refreshed. And since it is not a physical fixture, its available whenever or wherever needed. Just like the Father Son and Holy Spirit!
Words create something for us and in us. Not one word is weak or wasted. All the words we receive or give are for creating and building.
What are you building?
